How to get involved:

Volunteers are an integral part of running Cedarvale SAC.  There are many ways to get involved in small and large capacities. For example, volunteering for pizza lunch, Bingo night, or heading up one of the many committees mentioned below. Please see the descriptions of all the ways you can help.  We are appreciative of your support and any time that you can offer. Please consider volunteering for any of the following committees by SIGNING UP ONLINE HERE.

There are many ways to get involved in your school and we want to highlight some of the events and activities organized by the School Advisory Council (SAC) and the volunteers. The following is a snapshot of some of the opportunities to meet other parents, staff and get to know your child’s peers. SAC events raise money to help fund many of the activities, technology and equipment for the school that make your child’s experience at Cedarvale even more exceptional. Volunteers are an integral part of running Cedarvale community events. There are many ways to get involved in small and large capacities. Please read the descriptions below of all the ways you can help and fill out the volunteer form to sign up. We appreciate your support and any time that you can offer.

Hot lunch: Volunteers for hot lunch will arrive at the school just before lunch begins (11:15am). Food is delivered to the office by the vendor with each of the orders labeled and organized by class. As the volunteer, your job is to put the food orders in the correct classroom-designated bag. It does not require food handling or individual lunch distribution. The volunteer is merely sorting the orders by class, and when a student representative from each class arrives, you hand them the classroom-designated bag that contains the class orders. This volunteer role takes only 15 minutes and volunteers can sign up for a one-time slot or on a regular, recurring basis. 

Halloween Bingo: BINGO night is a great way to get our Cedarvale families together for a night of fun and costumes. This year’s Halloween BINGO night will take place on October 29th, 2026 at 6pm in the gym. With food being served and prizes to be won, BINGO nights are always a huge success and we look forward to continuing the tradition with you this year. Volunteer to help organize the event or volunteer on the day-of to help sell baked goods and popcorn, distribute pizza, or support the BINGO games. 

Cedarvale Marketplace: Every year, the Cedarvale gym hosts several community vendors for our Holiday Marketplace that is open to the public. This year’s Marketplace will occur on Sunday, November 15th, 2026. This event requires volunteer support to help vendors get set up in the morning, float during the shopping hours to ensure things are running smoothly, and to support vendors in their clean up at the end of the event. Class Parents: A parent/caregiver for each class volunteers to be “class parent” and is traditionally called upon by either classroom teachers or SAC sub-committees to contact parents from the class list. Class parents are a crucial part of running our classrooms; it is a small job with a minimal time commitment that makes a big difference.

After-School Programming: We offer a wide range of engaging activities designed to keep students enriched right after the school day ends. From creative arts to STEM, our programs provide a safe, fun, and educational environment where students can explore new interests and build essential skills while being cared for during after-school hours. Volunteers will work together to find new programs to offer and coordinate with vendors. For more information or to sign up, please see After School Programs on the SAC website. Information will also be distributed via email in the first few weeks of school. 

Eco Schools:Our Eco Schools Committee leads the school’s environmental initiatives and has helped Cedarvale earn a Platinum Eco Schools certification for many years - a major accomplishment! The Eco Schools Committee, made up of students, parents, and teachers, holds a variety of events throughout the year including our annual Eco Movie Night which will be held on Thursday, February 4th 2027. Students are encouraged to donate unused electronics in exchange for free popcorn. Please consider volunteering for the committee or the day of the Eco-movie event. 

Spring Fair: This year, Cedarvale’s largest fundraising event - the Spring Fair - will take place on Thursday, June 3rd, 2027. This event is open to the public and attracts over 1500 community members for an afternoon of fun featuring mechanical rides, bouncy castles, a DJ, silent auction, fun fair food, BBQ, and more! As Cedarvale’s largest community event, its success relies entirely on the support from volunteers. Volunteers can contribute as little as an hour on the day-of, or take a more active role on a sub-committee and help plan the school’s largest and most popular community event. If you are not able to physically volunteer, there are several ways to donate to the event including donating baked goods and salad bar items. More information will be distributed throughout the year, so be sure to read all the school emails.
